This week has been busy with photographing two theatre productions of contrasting styles. Tim Bray productions, who specialises in theatre for young children has just opened in time for the school holidays with his production of Mrs Wishy-Washy with actor Hamish McGregor in the title role. Now performing at the Pumphouse Theatre in Takapuna for school visits followed by general performances, this show with some clever comedy sketches will sure to please the young ones and even generate a laugh or two from their adult minders.
The second show, on a far bigger scale, was the opening of Wicked, the multi-award winning Broadway and West End hit which has been praised by audiences with standing ovations. The story before Dorothy arrived in Oz tells the story of Glinda The Good Witch and Elphaba, The Wicked Witch of the West. With New Zealand’s Jay Laga’aia joining the Australian cast as The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz the show is enthralling and visually stunning. Playing at the Civic Theatre until the end of November it is well worth seeing.
